Taumutu workshop: Ruahikahikatanga

 

 

ESAI members have had the opportunity to expand their cultural understanding of the local rūnanga , Te Taumutu.

As farmers with connections to Te Waihora Lake Ellesmere, it is important we understand the relationship the local Maori have to the lake and recognise the shared kaitiakitanga we have for the health and well-being of the lake.

The workshop included the Taumutu migration history, oral histories and values, contemporary rūnanga and how the iwi operate, background about Te Reo and some site visits.
