ESAI members complete Growsafe course

Sixteen landowners, including members of Ellesmere Sustainable Agriculture Inc, completed their  Growsafe and/or Certified Handler qualification at a course organised by ESAI and  presented by Educhem.

In recent years there have been many changes to agrichemical training and certification requirements, so getting the appropriate  qualifications for handling and safe use of agrichemicals is vital for modern farming.

The course stressed the importance of understanding  warnings on labels and reading the labels correctly; how to store chemicals safely, how to calibrate nozzles on sprayers, legislative and safety requirements, protective clothing and equipment and how to minimize contamination risks.

Grant Beare, who ran the course, provided interesting anecdotes and practical examples of how to reduce problems and risks and made a very dry topic engaging.
