Project Coordinator Johanna Blakely from Project Tinaku, left, discusses the planting at Southbridge School with Southbridge School Principal Ian Quilter and Lou Drage, the Kid’s Discovery Plantout coordinator from Te Ara Kakariki.
Kid’s Discovery Plantouts
Tinaku has teamed up with Te Ara Kākāriki to help deliver upcoming Kid’s Discovery Plantout (KDP) days for two local primary schools.
The (KDP) programme was established by Te Ara Kākāriki to allow children to connect with nature, learn about native biodiversity and make a positive difference in their local environment.
On the 23rd of August we will be hosting a KDP day for Southbridge Primary School at one of our ESAI member’s restoration projects.
The project is within walking distance from the school, allowing the students to keep an eye on their planting project into the future, and watch as the trees grow and establish.
Tinaku is also funding the transport for Leeston Consolidated School to attend their Kid’s Discovery Plantout in September.
This planting day is in partnership with DoC at a planting project on the edge of Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere.
Tinaku-funded student lands top job in PNG
The Tinaku project funded post-graduate student Tomson Tomoiye (blue overalls) to work with the DOC Te Waihora Weed Strikeforce team this summer.
Tomson, from Papua New Guinea, was completing his thesis at Lincoln University, and appreciated the part-time work the Tinaku project provided.
His study and his experience in the Strikeforce team has resulted in him being offered the position of Director PNG Conservation.
Congratulations Tomson!
